 Dental Laboratory Technician - Prosthetics Department


Devonshire House Dental Laboratory is a full-service lab providing technical support to dentists throughout the UK. Our custom built, state of the art laboratory in Babraham near Cambridge currently has a vacancy for a Prosthetics Technician to fabricate removable prostheses according to dentist prescriptions.

  • Full Time, Permanent
  • Excellent salary on offer; depending on experience.
  • 40 Hours per week

Particular Duties:

  • Skilled in fabricating removable prosthesis, including articulating, custom trays, wax occlusal rims, wax try-ins, processing, casting plaster models, wire bending, polishing, and repairing damaged/broken appliances.
  • Some experience in vacuum formed appliances and orthodontics is preferred, but not necessary. Training will be given in implant retained prosthesis, and orthodontics as required.

General Duties:

  • Constructs prostheses by following the dentist's prescription.
  • Liaises with the dentist prior to constructing prostheses where any variation from the prescription is required
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records as required.
  • Utilises and conserves supplies and equipment by completing duties in various departments; working with CAD/CAM technicians, maintaining supplies inventories; keeping equipment operating.
  • Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes, implementing changes.
  • Updates dental laboratory technician job knowledge and skills by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances dental laboratory reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Qualifications:

  • GDC registration

  • Full Time, Permanent
  • Excellent salary on offer; depending on experience.
  • 40 Hours per week

Job Responsibilities:

We require a qualified, GDC registered technician to take on the role of team leader in the Crown & Bridge department.
This role will encompass liaising with the Laboratory Manager and Administrator to ensure the smooth running of the department.

Particular Duties:

  • Managing workflow to ensure work is divided fairly.
  • Quality control.
  • Regulating stock. Researching and developing new equipment & materials.
  • Sharing knowledge and techniques with less experienced members of staff and maintaining team morale and fostering a positive team spirit.

Basic Duties:

  • Liaising with the dentist prior to construction of prostheses where any variation from the prescription is required.
  • Documenting actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records as required.
  • Utilising and conserving supplies and equipment
  • Improving quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes, and implementing changes.
  • Undertaking Continued Professional Development to keep skills & knowledge up to date.
  • Plaster casting, metal casting, metal polishing, wax modelling, ceramics, shade taking, sandblasting, liaising with CAD CAM technicians, maintaining supplies and inventories, and helping to keep equipment operating.
  • Sharing in responsibilities in the plaster room and keeping the lab clean & tidy.

Skills and qualifications:

  • GDC registration
  • Customer focus, good manual dexterity, good communication skills, use of dental technology, procedural skills, documentation skills, good attention to detail, tact & diplomacy, and a professional approach.
