How Tooth Whitening Works

We provide you with custom made bleaching trays. These are soft plastic “mini mouth guards” specially designed to hold the bleaching gel in the right place over your front and side teeth. We make one for the upper teeth and another for the lowers.

You can fit the trays over your teeth with the correct amount of bleaching gel inside them. We recommend that you wear the trays for 60-90 minutes each day. The gel gradually improves the colour of your teeth day by day. The process is gentle but effective and most people notice a difference even after one or two sessions. Depending on your susceptibility and how light we want your teeth to become, between 5 and 15 applications may be required. You can take a night off at any time, achieving your colour change at a rate suitable to you.

Dental materials such as fillings, crowns and veneers are not affected by the process and their colour will not be changed. As the tooth colour improves, any dark or unsightly pieces of dentistry will become more apparent. The need for follow up dental treatment will be fully discussed before you lighten your teeth at the first assessment appointment.
