Foundation Course Calendar 2017-2018

The 8 lecture days will take place on Fridays and the 3 clinical days on Saturdays. All course venues are in Cambridge.
Patients will be treated on the designated clinical days as detailed in the calendar below.
Any mentored second patients will be treated at an extra cost and diarised at a time during the week convenient to everyone involved.

The date of the lectures listed on each day are subject to change but will be included in the course.

  • Confirm patient suitability
  • Treatment planning for the course patient
  • Case assessment
  • Hands on implant placement on models
  • Surgical technique
  • Patient consent

  • Update on cross infection control
  • Pharmacological management of patients during treatment

Nurses:

Morning:
Cross infection control
Hands on draping

Afternoon:
Hands on implant placement on models

Transport will be provided for nurses to the afternoon venue, where dentists and nurses will congregate for lunch prior to the start of the afternoon session.

  • Assessment of patient selection
  • Treatment planning: selecting a suitable patient to treat during the course and treatment planning for other patients
  • Flap design and suturing techniques
  • Wound healing and inflammation
  • Radiography, scans and Simplant® planning
  • Prosthetically driven implant placement
  • Surgical guides
  • Nobel Biocare ordering and marketing

Clinical Day 1 Nurses and Dentists

  • Familiarisation with implant surgical procedures
  • Assisted patient surgery
  • Photographic/video recording of surgery
  • Post surgery critique

Lecture Day 4

Overview and technique for second stage surgery:

  • Understanding of different healing sequences
  • Loading protocols including immediate loading: All-on-4
  • Planning for second stage surgery
  • Occlusion - Prosthetic design for final restoration
  • Surgical procedures for abutment connection and implant uncovering
  • Second stage surgery - live demonstration or video

  • Stages in model construction and abutment selection
  • Impression technique and facebow
  • Laboratory dockets
