House
Dental Care for Children
With a sensible approach to tooth brushing and diet children can develop a set of teeth free from dental disease. Over the decades Devonshire House has helped many families raise their infants to adulthood without ever having fillings.
The way we can help with regular check ups is to allow the child to feel confident in the dental chair and be involved and interested in the health of their own teeth. By helping the family with their preventive care and by applying the preventive dental techniques available to us we can watch our children grow up without cavities and fillings.
If a youngster does eventually need some dental treatment their confidence need not be upset by the event. A child without any traditional preconceptions of dentistry can be helped through even quite complex treatment without discomfort.
Orthodontics
Part of the significance of regular check ups for growing children is to allow the dentist to assess the development of their teeth. Anomalies are very common. Very few people have a perfectly straight set of teeth from childhood through to adulthood. Some crooked teeth though are simply a normal stage of development, where as others are destined to be a permanent feature unless treated.
At the appropriate stage of development crooked teeth can be straightened with modern efficient braces. We are lucky to have Dr Dirk Bister as the Devonshire House Orthodontist. He diagnoses and treats youngsters crooked teeth using the most up to date orthodontic braces. Many adults who missed out on orthodontic treatment are also benefiting from the modern techniques now available. You are never too old to have your teeth straightened.

Sports Guards
We manufacture our own sports guards for children and adults involved in contact sports. Many schools fortunately now insist that their pupils wear them for Rugby and Hockey. Each sports guard is custom made to fit our patient's upper teeth and is specially designed to have a comfortable edges and a proper bite with the lower teeth. They are made in a massive range of colours, each one named, and packed in its own tough plastic box.
Teenagers
The Devonshire House approach to preventive care for growing children combined with an interested family regularly allows children to reach their teens with a close to perfect set of teeth. Teenagers are often harder to appeal to when health issues are involved, and parents can reach the limit of their nagging skills. The Dentists, Orthodontist and Hygienists continue to work hard with this group and we are usually successful at promoting their self motivation towards maintaining their healthy mouths. Most youngsters reaching the age of 18 or 20 with healthy teeth will then look after them automatically.
