Line & wrinkle treatments have been used as Cosmetic Treatments for thousands of patients all over the world, revolutionising the cosmetic industry due to their remarkable results combined with very few risks and no recovery time. There are, in essence, two types of wrinkles on the face. The first are those that come on, or are made worse, by movements such as frowning, raising your eyebrows, or smiling. Then there are those that are present all the time, even when the face is relaxed. The two types of wrinkles can be thought of as 'dynamic' and 'static' wrinkles.
Treatment of Dynamic Wrinkles
The treatment for dynamic wrinkles is Botulinum Toxin, a purified form of a specific neuromuscular blocking agent. It works by stopping the signal from the nerve reaching the muscle and therefore prevents the muscle from contracting. By using small quantities, this can minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in particular on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows. Botulinium injections can also be used for other applications, for example sweating under the armpits or for certain neuromuscular disorders.
Treatment of Static Wrinkles
Static Wrinkles are caused by the constant movement and folding of the skin, until it forms a 'worn out' line, or crease. These wrinkles are, in essence, formed by a loss of tissue in the skin and the fat immediately beneath it. The treatment for these is therefore to replace that volume, using Filler Injections.
The commonest filler currently in use is based upon a molecule called Hyaluronic Acid (also called Hyaluronan). This is a molecule found naturally in the skin. After injection, it is slowly broken down by the body, lasting up to six months.
Prevents fine lines and deep wrinkles from appearing by relaxing the muscles. The most popular areas to treat are:
Frown lines between the eyes
Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles which have already formed and restores a more youthful appearance
Untreated areas of the face aren't affected, so you can still smile and frown, but the skin on the treated areas won't wrinkle as much as usual
The treatment is non-invasive with virtually no recovery time necessary; you can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment
This treatment is not permanent and will naturally wear off
